Being happy with what you have is a state of mind, and a rare one at that. Try to appreciate all the things we take for granted on a daily basis — the ability to walk, the ability to eat, the freedom to live our lives, having a roof over your head, etc.
Rule #1: Be happy with what you have.
Can things be better? Sure. And I’ll get to that in rule #2. But have you thought about how it could be worse? For everyone who is skinnier, healthier or richer than you, there are many more who are on the other end of the spectrum. Appreciate what you have, and you’ll find life is more enjoyable.
Once we have rule #1 down, then it’s time to focus on rule #2.
Rule #2: Always work to be better.
Working to be better is a journey, not a destination. Health and appearance require work on a daily basis. Day after day, meal after meal, workout after workout — they’re all steps in the right direction on an endless journey.
Instead of tracking how far you need to go, track how far you’ve already come. Too many people get caught up in the number on the scale, but reaching that ideal number won’t automatically make you happy. Following both these rules will give you the happiness you’re looking for.
